Based out of Santa Cruz, California, HYPHENBACKSLASH (-\) is a genre-agnostic music project. Early works focus primarily in the experimental art-rock vein with strains of ambient, alternative, metal, electronic, and pop. Songs involve dynamic shifts and dream-like textures, providing pathways to the analytical and metaphysical.

Making and releasing music in various projects for over 20 years, -\ returns after an 11 year hiatus. -\ initial writing and recording started as a pre-teen, spent formative years around a small project studio and various aspiring artists. Music has always been a creative and connective outlet during difficult times. The ritual of sharing and creating is its own reward. Music can be a light in dark times, an escape, a call to action, and even reminder of celebration. -\ represents hopes that we can share in these creative experience and find connection within ourselves and each other.

Influences include Radiohead, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Thrice, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Tame Impala, Meshuggah, Thundercat, The Mars Volta, Beck, Opeth, Coldplay, Daft Punk, If These Trees Could Talk, Russian Circles, Jeff Beck, John Scofield, Jojo Mayer & Nerve, Led Zeppelin, Local Natives, MuteMath, Charles Mingus, Muse, Sufjan Stevens, Killswitch Engage, and more.
